Organic–Canada–Flax Seed

VIGrain are a grain milling and storage facility located in Port Alberni. All profits from grain sales are reinvested back into improving grain harvesting, handling and milling infrastructure for Vancouver Island. One of their goals is to promote interest in growing and marketing locally grown grains.

The grain products that VI Grain sells are of the highest quality. They buy directly from Certified Organic grain farms and do their own milling. These grains are then kept in a refrigerated and humidity controlled environment for the maximum in quality control. This gives  VI Grain the ability to maintain the largest inventory and variety of “Certified Organic” grains on the Vancouver Island.

Flaxseed is a superfood and is getting more attention these days for its ability to clean and detoxify while it nourishes and renews. It is a rich source of omega-3 unsaturated fatty acid. The oil is fragile and once milled should be refrigerated . Never heat flaxseed oil .

Finally, Canadian Flax Seed!!!!  Flax seeds are known to be source of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, rich in fibre, and containing several minerals including magnesium.

Whole seeds can keep up to 8 months in an airtight container in the fridge.  Ground flax is best used in two weeks, and must be stored in the fridge.

With their slightly nutty flavour, these seeds are a great addition to your breads, crackers and cakes! Note that it is best to consume flax when freshly ground to better assimilate its benefits. As a powder, add it to your smoothies, cereals, oatmeals, yogourts, homemade cookies and cakes or sprinkle it on top of your salads!

Flax seeds can even be used as a substitute for eggs. Grind the seeds blend and mix 1 tbsp with 3 tbsp of water, let’s stand for a few minutes before using. Simple and delicious.
