Vancouver Island Grain & Milling

Oat Kernels ,FLAKED

VIGrain are a grain milling and storage facility located in Port Alberni. All profits from grain sales are reinvested back into improving grain harvesting, handling and milling infrastructure for Vancouver Island. One of their goals is to promote interest in growing and marketing locally grown grains.

The grain products that VI Grain sells are of the highest quality. They buy directly from Certified Organic grain farms and do their own milling. These grains are then kept in a refrigerated and humidity controlled environment for the maximum in quality control. This gives  VI Grain the ability to maintain the largest inventory and variety of “Certified Organic” grains on the Vancouver Island.

At 14% protein, oats have the highest protein content of all common grains, second only to the newly revived “super grains,” amaranth and quinoa, and the man-made hybrid Triticale. Oats contain seven B vitamins, vitamin E, and are mineral-rich. They supply a significant amount of iron and a good amount of calcium and phosphorus. Oats have gained popularity in recent times because they are credited with the ability to reduce cholesterol in the blood. For the maximum benefit in human nutrition, oats should be freshly flaked for use in cereal or baking.

Oat flakes are with high energy and biological values.Their quite high amount of fibre, calcium, vitamins and other healthy substances along with easy digestion makes them suitable for various diets, children´s and athletes´diet. Apart from common flakes, we also produce fine oat flakes. Their greatest advantage is in fast preparation. They are ready for consumption immediately after you pour e.g. milk on them, so you avoid long soaking time.

Oat contribute beneficial minerals — including iron and phosphorus — to your diet. Both iron and phosphorus make up components of compounds essential to good health. Phosphorus is incorporated into your DNA, bone mineral tissue and ATP — a source of energy — while iron is incorporated into hemoglobin and myoglobin, two proteins you need to transport and store oxygen. Each serving of oats contains 204 milligrams of phosphorus, or 29 percent of your recommended daily intake.
